25 to 25!

Ok, here goes!

This year I'll be 25 years old. I may end up having a quarter life crisis, I may not :)

Last week I came up with the brilliant idea to try and lose 25 pounds before I turn 25!

I had family in town this past weekend, so I decided to start today. I need all the motivation you guys can give me, and if you're trying to lose weight, I'd love to hear your stories as well.

This morning, I was out of milk, so I opted for a Kashi bar and Chobani yogurt.

Today is my last day before I start school - tomorrow I have orientation for nursing school and then Wednesday classes start - Yikes!! That means today I'll be spending time finishing last minute things that I could've, should've, would've done over the past 2 weeks that I was off of work and school.

Also, tonight, I have plans to go to Body Pump at CG!

See you later!

Foam Rolling - hurts so good!

Last Thursday I decided to try out the gym, and more specifically the group class called Body Pump - you may remember my brief mention of it here. Let me just say that Friday I could barely walk!!!!

And, that extreme soreness continued all weekend. Luckily I had heard of foam rollers from you other bloggers out there, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I went to Academy and picked up my foam roller and I was anxious to experience it's benefits. WOAH! Very soon after I rolled my sore muscles, I could feel relief! You can get your own foam roller at Academy, or any other sporting good store. It's really simple to use, just lay over it and roll those muscles!

I'm not sure why I was this sore this time. Of course, I expected to be a little sore - as always is expected after time off from your workout routine. But this time was like none other, and I'm not really sure why.

Now that I can actually walk around and sit down without simply falling into a chair, I plan on doing some light walking today to work that lactic acid out of my legs. Tomorrow, I have every intention to go back to the Body pump class - I love getting into the routine of things!

Also, this week, I return to school! I have been out of school for over 2 years and I am really excited. There will be lots more about this in the near future.

Join the Party!

After resting up from my body pump class this morning, I was ready for another workout.

This staying home business gets to me, and I feel like I should and could be doing something productive! So, I looked at the gym's class schedule lineup, and tonight they had ZUMBA!

I've done Zumba in Shreveport and I enjoyed it. I talked and raved about it so much I even got my mom going, and now she's hooked!

Well, Shreveport Zumba has NOTHING on Slidell Zumba! Join the party people - this was awesome!

Lots of great music, booty shaking, belly dancing, salsa dancing, you name it.

I can't wait to go back!

Tomorrow I have plans to enjoy the spa day that Bradley got me for Christmas!

January Joiner :)

Well, Hello 2011!

Yes, I'm a little late. Let's just say I've had about a 2 month split from any workout at all, and it was TIME to get back in the gym. Yesterday, Bradley and I joined at a nearby gym and I was so anxious and ready to get back into the swing of routine.

Here's a thought: Body pump is not a beginner class :) I can already feel that I'm going to be sore tomorrow - good? Yes!

While it can be hard to get back into the routine of working out, I think you all can agree that once you do it, you don't regret it.

Joining a gym in January has its pros and cons. Joining a gym that you're going to alone can also be kind of scary - tons of cardio machines, weight machines you may not know how to use, people come in and people leave, you may not know anyone.

Let me give you THE PROS of starting in January comes in.
  • You are NOT the only one. - Everyone is in the gym working on their fitness and new years resolutions, it's easier to make new gym friends when there are more people like you!
  • Gyms run specials. - example - when I joined yesterday the enrollment fee went from $80 to $30!
CONS:
  • Busy gym, Busy machines - Because it is January, and so many people are hitting up the gym, you may have to wait to workout on your favorite machine, that's ok though, you sometimes need a break anyway, right?
  • You may feel pressured - At my gym there are many advertisements for free stuff - bring a friend, and you get this, or do this and you get that - you don't HAVE to pay attention to them!
Just remember you are not the only newbie. Just do it, and you'll thank me later :)

Check back later for my goals for 2011 and my journey as I go back to school after being out of school for 2.5 years!!! yikes!
